Sum Multi-coloring of Graphs

چکیده
Scheduling dependent jobs on multiple machines is modeled by the graph multicoloring problem. In this paper we consider the problem of minimizing the average completion time of all jobs. This is formalized as the sum multicoloring problem: Given a graph and the number of colors required by each vertex, nd a multicoloring which minimizes the sum of the largest colors assigned to the vertices. It reduces to the known sum coloring problem when each vertex requires exactly one color. This paper reports a comprehensive study of the sum multicoloring problem, treating three models: with and without preemptions, as well as co-scheduling where jobs cannot start while others are running. We establish a linear relation between the approximability of the maximum independent set problem and the approximability of the sum multicoloring problem in all three models, via a link to the sum coloring problem. Thus, for classes of graphs for which the independent set problem is -approximable, we obtain O( )-approximations for preemptive and co-scheduling sum multicoloring, and O( logn)-approximation for nonpreemptive sum multicoloring. In addition, we give constant ratio approximations for a number of fundamental classes of graphs, including bipartite, line, bounded degree, and planar graphs.

For a coloring $c$ of a graph $G$, the edge-difference coloring sum and edge-sum coloring sum with respect to the coloring $c$ are respectively $sum_c D(G)=sum |c(a)-c(b)|$ and $sum_s S(G)=sum (c(a)+c(b))$, where the summations are taken over all edges $abin E(G)$. The edge-difference chromatic sum, denoted by $sum D(G)$, and the edge-sum chromatic sum, denoted by $sum S(G)$, a...
متن کاملOn sum coloring and sum multi-coloring for restricted families of graphs
We consider the sum coloring (chromatic sum) and sum multi-coloring problems for restricted families of graphs. In particular, we consider the graph classes of proper intersection graphs of axis-parallel rectangles, proper interval graphs, and unit disk graphs. All the above mentioned graph classes belong to a more general graph class of (k+1)clawfree graphs (respectively, for k = 4, 2, 5). We ...

A fuzzy graph is a symmetric binary fuzzy relation on a fuzzy subset. The concept of fuzzy sets and fuzzy relations was introduced by L.A.Zadeh in 1965cite{zl} and further studiedcite{ka}. It was Rosenfeldcite{ra} who considered fuzzy relations on fuzzy sets and developed the theory of fuzzy graphs in 1975. The concepts of fuzzy trees, blocks, bridges and cut nodes in fuzzy graph has been studi...
متن کاملBatch Coloring Tree-like Graphs
Batch scheduling of conflicting jobs is modeled by batch coloring of a graph. Given an undirected graph and the number of colors required by each vertex, we need to find a proper batch coloring of the graph, i.e., partition the vertices to batches which are independent sets, and to assign to each batch a contiguous set of colors, whose size equals to the maximum color requirement of any vertex ...

For a given graph G, the square of G, denoted by G2, is a graph with the vertex set V(G) such that two vertices are adjacent if and only if the distance of these vertices in G is at most two. A graph G is called squared if there exists some graph H such that G= H2. A function f:V(G) {0,1,2…, k} is called a coloring of G if for every pair of vertices x,yV(G) with d(x,y)=1 we have |f(x)-f(y)|2 an...
